Eglet Adams Eglet Ham Henriod Selects 2024 Community Involvement Scholarship Recipients

Listen to this blog:

The Eglet Adams Eglet Ham Henriod Community Involvement Scholarship is provided annually to three students who are committed to making their community a better place. At Eglet Adams, our work enables us to fight for the rights of the unjustly harmed and make positive changes for our clients and community.

Eglet Adams has a long history of supporting our community and organizations that enable positive change. Each year, the firm provides an internship opportunity to third-year William S. Boyd School of Law students and supports many local charities and associations, including the Alzheimer’s Association, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Make a Wish Foundation, Opportunity Village, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Veteran’s Village, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, and more. The Community Involvement Scholarship was created to broaden our impact and support those who are working to improve their community, whether on a local or global scale.

We believe that education, along with a passion and drive, is empowering for those who want to be community advocates and stand up for the rights of others. By investing in the education of three students who wish to promote, and uphold values and goals like our own, we feel that we are investing in a more positive future.

This year, we received 240 applications, and after a thorough review process, we are proud to announce our three scholarship winners. Read on to learn more about these exceptional students and how they are working to make a difference in their communities.

Jamie Nguyen

Jamie Nguyen is an incoming freshman at the University of Chicago, where she will continue her lifelong passion for soccer as a member of the Maroons’ Varsity Women’s Soccer team. At the University, she intends to pursue a business-related major with an environmental minor, reflecting her interest in corporate sustainability.

Throughout high school, Jamie's primary focus was on environmental service, science, and action. She served as president of Green Ops, her high school’s environmental service club, and their National Honor Society chapter, where more than 100 members collectively contributed over 1,700 hours annually. Outside of school, Jamie was a student leader of the Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action’s Sunnyvale team. The team focused on legislative impact and environmental projects in their local community, becoming the first youth to ever receive Sunnyvale’s Environmental Achievement Award in 2022.

As she navigates college and her future career, Jamie hopes to continue pursuing her passion for environmental sustainability and business. She aims to leverage her collegiate education—both inside and outside the classroom—to achieve her goal of creating a sustainable and productive workplace.

Hassan Al Kaaby Al Zoaby

Hassan Al Kaaby Al Zoaby was born and raised in Lebanon. In 2021, he moved to the United States to continue his academic journey as a PhD student at The University of Texas at Austin.

Throughout his time in Lebanon, he used the knowledge and expertise he gained from earning a bachelor's and a master’s degree in civil engineering to help and positively impact his community. Growing up, Hassan was always terrified by the lack of enforced building design codes to ensure the safety of buildings against earthquakes and natural disasters. This is particularly important as Lebanon is located in a highly seismic region. Upon completing his PhD, Hassan plans to return to Lebanon equipped with the necessary skills and technical expertise to help restructure existing design codes.

Yelyzaveta Merenzon

Yelyzaveta Merenzon graduated from the University of Chicago in 2023 with a degree in economics. Following her education, she worked at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab as the primary coordinator for a research project studying knee osteoarthritis. Outside of her educational background, she is a six-time National Team member and a member of the 2020-2021 Tokyo Olympic Team for rhythmic gymnastics. Yelyzaveta had the opportunity to compete at the World Championships, the Pan American Games, and numerous World Cups.

Yelyzaveta is a first-year medical student at the Medical College of Wisconsin and hopes to one day become a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician who supports underserved patients in their pursuit of restoring a certain quality of life.

Congratulations to our three outstanding scholarship recipients!
