The Eglet Prince scholarship awards one student a year of paid tuition and a paid internship at the firm. During their internship, the student will gain hands on experience with our award-winning team. In the time they spend at the office each week, interns will shadow attorneys in court, assist with depositions and work on writing assignments.
Julio Garcia, a third-year Juris Doctor candidate at the Boyd School of Law was selected to be the 2018 Eglet Prince scholarship and internship recipient.
Garcia was born in Santiago de Cuba and moved to the United States when he was just three years old. Throughout his life, Garcia always knew that he would pursue a career in which he could make a difference and help others.
Garcia completed his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Initially, he wanted to pursue another degree in marriage and family therapy but decided to apply to law school instead. Garcia’s decision to apply to law school was motivated by his belief that he would be able to make a larger impact and help more people as a lawyer.
Before joining Eglet Prince, Garcia worked as a judicial extern for two chief judges and as an assistant instructor for concealed carry weapons classes. In his internship at Eglet Prince, Garcia is looking forward to observing how a law firm operates from the inside and what a typical day looks like for a trial attorney. He is also looking forward to working with Eglet Prince because of the active trial experience he will gain.
“In today’s legal world, 2% of cases go to trial. A lawyer who doesn’t go to trial is like a surgeon who doesn’t operate, I saw interning at Eglet Prince as an incredible opportunity to learn from lawyers who actually go to trial,” said Garcia.
After law school, Garcia hopes to clerk in a district court and then pursue a career in personal injury law and civil litigation.
When he’s not attending classes or working at the firm, Garcia enjoys playing sports, watching Netflix and going out to eat where he can discover new foods.
