Robert Eglet Appears Before the Judicial Panel for Multidistrict Litigation in San Francisco, CA.

On September 27, 2018, Robert Eglet appeared before the Judicial Panel for Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) in San Francisco, CA.

After filing ten separate lawsuits across the county against thousands of victims of the 1 October Shooting, MGM Resorts International filed a request with JPML in an attempt to set up a multidistrict litigation in the Central District of California. In response to questions from the judges, MGM Attorney, Brad Brian candidly admitted that MGM would like these cases transferred out of the State of Nevada.

Robert Eglet argued in opposition to MGM's request by stating that these cases belong in a courtroom in Las Vegas, Nevada, since: (1) the security failures that led up to and resulted in this horrific incident occurred at the Mandalay Bay, (2) the majority of the witnesses are there, (3) first responders and medical doctors who initially treated the victims are there, and (4) Mandalay Bay and MGM are incorporated in Nevada.

No decision was issued today by the six-member Panel of Judges, but they seemed persuaded by the arguments that Mr. Eglet conveyed on behalf of the 1 October victims. When asked about Mr. Eglet's argument, one observer stated, "it was delivered with precision and seemed to be well received by the Panel."

A ruling by the Panel is anticipated in the next several weeks.
